Surveillance video: Brutal mugging attempt in Washington Heights building elevator caught on camera
Juel News - nydailynews-A mugger was captured on surveillance camera roughing up a woman and then punching her with a closed fist - all in a fruitless bid to steal her cellphone, cops said Friday night.
The goon - a Latino who shaves his balding head - targets women and goes after their cell phones. He is wanted for two strong-armed robberies in Washington Heights, police said.
The shameless attack that was captured on surveillance camera was the second of the two violent stickups. Police said the suspect - described as about 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds with a slight beard - followed a 29-year-old woman into an elevator in an apartment building.
He pinned her against the wall of the elevator and demanded she fork over her cell phone. When she refused, he went berserk - tossing her against the walls of the elevator and punching her at least once, police said.
The victim fought back, and the suspect eventually fled empty-handed, police said. The victim later refused medical attention.
The goon's first attack was more successful and only slightly less brutal. He attacked a 26-year-old woman as she entered an apartment building. He slammed her against a wall and barked at her to give him her cell phone.
She complied, and then he took off. The victim was treated for a cut to her right eye, police said. Police would not provide an address for either building or name the streets the buildings are located on.
