Teachers Invited Save the Mangrove
Teachers from 16 schools in Greater Jakarta and Sulawesi were trained to develop education about mangrove forest (mangrove) as part of efforts to strengthen environmental education.
Training activities with visits to plant mangrove conservation center in North Jakarta area was part of Green Teacher training, titled "Green Teacher: Mangroves 4 Life". Training organized by the Sampoerna School of Education (SSE) and supported by UNESCO Asia-Pacific in Jakarta on Friday (06/24/2011).
Andreas Pramudianto, lecturer and researcher at the Center for the Study of Human Resources and Environment, University of Indonesia, said, mangroves crucial to maintaining the balance of marine life. Indonesia should maintain bakaunya forest to keep the environment itself, as well as to develop economic and social values in society.
Paulina Harvest, Dean of SSE, said it was important to educate the educators in the rescue mission mangrove population continues to shrink. Teachers are expected to apply at their respective school curricula. Teachers can integrate the issue of mangrove plants in environmental education.
Maaruji, Teacher Network Coordinator Blue Wakatobi, Sulawesi Tenggara, adding, schools have been introduced in the Wakatobi marine education to students from kindergarten to high school in the local content since 2005. This was done because most of the waters of the Wakatobi region.
"The teachers provided students with local content specifically marine, including also the issue of mangrove forests are an important part," Maaruji said.
